“…The structure, the message, the grind…

…direction, the place, the time.”

My name is Khamadi Brown. I write, rap, produce and perform under the stage alias cardigan. I am 21 years of age, born and raised in Raleigh, and an extremely proud member of the Black queer community. Though music has been a passion of mine since the beginning of my life, I started creating and uploading to the open Internet about 8 years ago. With ups and downs, creating it is as much of a skill and gift as it is a privilege to me and others listening.

Birthyear. is my 12th full-length solo project. Holding 2 acts at around 48 minutes, this album is the only one I have recorded entirely in the studio. Even amongst the heavy comfort in my sound vocally and instrumentally, through challenges and lessons, I unlock new attributes of my musical process every day. Trusting ambition and giving time and grace for sonic development led me to make one of my most important bodies of work to date.

Nothing in this world holds meaning without the intention behind it. Where you come from and where you happen to be from are both settings of the past and present as one. There is an infinite amount of luxury in the knowledge we possess. To love is to learn and as a student of Hip-Hop in the Z generation, I find it difficult to love anything more. -kb03
